CURATORIAL AXIOM

Perfection is the aesthetic of cold automation. The human touch reveals itself in vibrant soy inks, paper tooth, and playful misregistration.

Digital screens are too sterile, too mathematically sharp. In the printshop, magic happens in the misregistration: when the pink drum is half a millimeter off from the blue drum, creating accidental third colors and raw human warmth.

STUDIO SENSORY VIGNETTE

The intoxicating aroma of banana-oil solvent and rice-bran soy ink; the mechanical chug-chug-clack of the print drum spinning at 120 copies per minute; the warm, slightly damp feel of fresh newsprint stacking in the exit tray.

Fluorescent spot chromas and microscopic print misregistration stimulate ocular curiosity, making reading feel like handling physical indie print.

The Radical Joy of Misregistration: Why Human Eyes Crave Mechanical Imperfection

Celebrating the warmth of soy inks, toothy newsprint, and the accidental overlaps that make every printed artifact unique.

Milo Sato, Atelier Stencil Collective

In 1986, Noboru Hayama engineered the Risograph not as high art, but as an affordable office duplicator for Japanese schools and churches. Yet artists quickly discovered that the machine's limitations—its inability to print true black, its mandatory spot-color drums, its tactile misregistration—were actually its greatest expressive virtues.

Risograph Ephemera brings the vibrant, fearless energy of fluorescent soy inks (Fluro Pink, Sunflower, Federal Blue) onto warm uncoated paper pulp. Borders mimic folded paper zine edges with subtle halftone screening.

Perfection is the aesthetic of machines that do not care about you. Misregistration is the fingerprint of a machine that loves humans.
