Aquarius: The January Feast
Chantilly · Lapis cloth, gold leaf & winter linen.
A blue-and-gold palette after the January feast in the Très Riches Heures. Lapis cloth, gilt and pale linen become the materials of an imagined winter dining room, with the manuscript’s source kept beside the colour.

Six colors, one atmosphere.
Screen colors are authored interpretations. Material photographs show surface character; they are not calibrated color samples.
02 / Play with the composition
Keep blue as the ground, or open the linen.
Explore the balance of six screen colours. The metallic samples supply colour references, not a simulation of real gold or silver.

The source / Art history
A month above the scene.
Painted by the Limbourg brothers in 1411–1416, the January calendar miniature presents the Duke of Berry’s New Year feast, with a richly dressed court and gold table vessels. The Sun’s chariot passes from Capricorn to Aquarius. Blue cloth, warm metal and pale linen become an imagined winter room, without claiming to reconstruct the feast or identify its pigments.

Lunologium source revision 4d4d8ecc · astronomy-engine 2.1.19. Generated reference for 2026–2028; year labels identify the year of entry, so a Capricorn interval continues into the next January.

Tradition / Historical classification
A note on the tradition.
In the traditional classification recorded by Lunologium, Aquarius is fixed air, with Saturn as its traditional ruler. These are cultural categories, separate from the computed solar position and the colours sampled for this study.
