The source / Art history

A month above the scene.

September at Schifanoia, attributed to Ercole de’ Roberti, places Libra below Vulcan and his forge. Our grape-and-cellar materials are a separate autumn interpretation; the source is not being described as a grape-harvest scene. Oak, pewter and madder cloth connect the drawer to an imagined sitting room.

Tradition / Historical classification

A note on the tradition.

In the traditional classification recorded by Lunologium, Libra is cardinal air, with Venus as its traditional ruler. These are cultural categories, separate from the computed solar position and the colours sampled for this study.
