The source / Art history
A month above the scene.
The October miniature was begun by the Limbourg brothers in 1411–1416 and completed by Barthélemy d’Eyck around 1446. Sowing takes place before the Louvre, beneath an arc from Libra to Scorpio. Soil and seed grain connect our drawer to that scene; leather, walnut and the imagined library are contemporary additions, not a reconstruction of a manuscript interior.
